Go!Durban: Integrated Rapid Transport Network (IRPTN)

MrW was commissioned by eThekweni Transport Authority and Durban City Architects to resolve issues with their existing Go!Durban identity and to then provide a comprehensive three-volume Identity Application Guideline as to how the identity should be applied across a wide range of applications. Following this exercise, they were required to develop (from scratch) a wayfinding and navigation system for the nine corridor IRPTN bus network throughout the Durban city metro. This system needed to include mapping, wayfinding, and UA compliant signage, ideally suited to a functionally literate commuter. Phase 1 included prototyping on a single station, rolled out in phase 2 to multiple stations as each station site is unique. The entire system was to be documented by means of a detailed ‘sign by sign, station by station, signage matrix’ for rollout by the appointed contractor.
